Medical Report Contents
Every customized, comprehensive medical report is organized into the following sections:
Section 1: How to Use This Medical Report
Look here to discover:
- what's in your medical report
- how the information is organized
- how to find more information
This section is divided into three parts:
- Body systems that are affected by your medical condition:
- basic anatomy (what the parts are)
- physiology (how and why they are not working properly)
- definitions of medical terms associated with your condition
- links to freely available medical images to help you visualize what we are explaining
- Signs and symptoms (how your body is letting you know something is wrong):
- a description of the possible objective things (signs) that other people notice about you (a rash or swelling, for example)
- a description of possible subjective things (symptoms) that you notice (fatigue or a headache, for instance)
- conventional Western medicine's use of your signs and symptoms to diagnosis
your condition. This section contains detailed descriptions of tests and
procedures
- side effects from each diagnostic test
- Organizational tools to help you make sense of all of your medical visits and test results:
- a checklist of "Questions to Ask"
- a form to keep track of the answers
- suggestions on how to build a Medical Log for future reference
Remember: it's a PDF document, so you can print out these pages as often as you need them.
.
Section 3: Treatments & Complications
In this section of the report, look for:
- Explanations of each treatment, with possible side effects
- Costs of treatments, if known
- Regional centers that specialize in treating this medical condition
- Clinical trials involving your medical condition, both ongoing and enrolling, plus links to enrollment information
- Experimental treatments that are on the cutting edge
- A checklist of "Questions to Ask" your health care provider, in a user-friendly format
- Links to further explanations
This is the core of the report, and takes the most time and expertise to generate. Here you will find:
- Lists of sources we searched: search engines, directories, databases, etc
- Keywords and phrases we used for the search
- Search results in table format for a quick summary. This table is organized according to research on the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of your medical condition
- Written explanation of the research, with simplified summaries of the technical information
We explain how the results apply to your situation. Use this information, plus information in the appendices, to get a complete picture of current research findings.
Section 5: Summary
In the final section, we tie together everything we've learned about your medical condition. We summarize what is not known at this time, and what researchers are working on. We also give you more tools to gather information, including:
- Reliable sources for further background information, organized by type of source
- Trustworthy sources of breaking news on your condition
- Contact information for remaining in touch with us
- The opportunity to sign up for customized research updates every 6 months, so you will remain current and informed on breakthroughs and research results that impact your health
Appendices
- Descriptions of research study types (which you will need to fully understand Section 4, Search Results)
- Details of search results, including a multi-page analysis of each research article we read. This shows you our reasons for including the article, while noting anything that could affect its reliability (such as bias, flaws in methodology, conflicts of interest)
- Explanation of the "Hierarchy of Evidence", an accepted Western allopathic organization of research methods into "strong" and "weak" methods, according to strengths and weaknesses in each method
- Additional Resource Materials: books, newsletters, CDs, DVDs, brochures, radio or television programs, blogs, patient advocacy groups, sources of inspiration or humor, and anything else we can recommend to help you at this time
- Others, as needed for your particular situation (it is a customized report, after all)
If you have requested a Comprehensive PLUS Report, which includes Complementary
and Alternative Medicine (CAM), and Integrative Medicine (IM) therapies, your report will be much longer, because each section will discuss three approaches to your medical condition.
Comprehensive PLUS Medical Reports will also include an additional section:
Section 6: CAM and IM
Here you will receive:
- Descriptions of CAM: 5 basic types of non conventional therapies
- Descriptions of IM: how does it blend conventional and unconventional approaches, keeping the patient's needs and wishes in mind
- Explanations of CAM & IM practitioner types & therapies found in the literature search, which could include acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, body work (Feldenkrais, Rolfing, Shiatsu, Trager work, massage, etc.), Ayurvedic, Traditional Chinese Medicine, chiropractic, herbal medicine, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy, craniosacral, naprapathy, therapeutic touch, Reiki, and others
- Explanations of how CAM/IM research and its literature differs from conventional allopathic approaches
DISCLAIMER: We reserve the right to add other components, as needed, to each report. Because this is an individualized report, it is impossible to predict its length and exact contents. Please be assured that each report will be as comprehensive as possible. Quantity does not ensure quality. We promise to write concise, comprehensive reports that do not waste your time with fillers or unnecessary material.
